FIRST DAY - OUVERTURE DU CHAPITRE
Père David Glennday (MCCJ) - animateur du Chapitre
Sr Felicia Harry - Sup. Générale
Sr Nicole Rivard - Secrétaire générale
Our 16th General Chapter has just begun and we implore you to unite with us in prayer as we pitch our tents in the 'upper room' for the next one-month. We feel obliged to keep you updated on the proceedings of this all-important General Chapter - the 16th General Chapter in the life of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles. This Chapter is very significant at this point of the church's history when we stand at the threshold of a new form of evangelization in response to the needs of our broken world.
The theme for the General Chapter " Women Apostle, Rooted in the Word of God, Dare to be seeds of communion and Hope. "Live in unity … and they will believe"; will form the basis of our discussions and deliberations throughout the Chapter.
The official opening of the Chapter took place on the afternoon of 3rd July 2013. The principal objective of the Chapter is to celebrate the life of our Institute, to give thanks to God for how far he has travelled with us, and to renew our dynamism in the service of mission. Sr. Felicia Harry; Superior General of the Institute, in her opening address shared with us that we are invited to fall in love with God who has called each one of us and to renew our zeal with Him who makes us partners of His mission. We need to fall in love with God to live His compassion towards each brother and each sister in our world today. A world that is fragmented almost beyond recognition, and a world existing in a period of contradictions. This is the world that we are called to serve. Our mission is to the people of today, living in a world that is so confused and distressed. But then we should not be afraid to commit ourselves to serving humanity, sharing in their joys and sufferings.
The official opening was followed by the celebration of the Eucharist with His eminence Peter cardinal Turkson as the main celebrant. In his homily he reminded us of our mission heritage, which our earlier Sisters sacrificed their lives for.
